And I thought that the unemployment rate was getting lower! There was recently some research done in the state of Oregon, and it was shown that the unemployment rate in the state really hasn’t improved. In fact, it’s now as high as it was right after September 11th. For those people who are part of this crowd, it’s important to really stretch the dollar. If you are currently unemployed, it may seem obvious not to take advantage of your unemployment checks. Unfortunately many don’t find this so obvious, and they use the money for items that want and not need. Activities such as going on vacation or to the movies really shouldn’t be done using your unemployment money. Use it for essentials,and try to really get the bang for your buck by buying non name brands if possible.
Something else to consider is that you can’t give up on job searching. Know that there are or have been in the same situation as you. If everyone gave up on looking for a job, then no one would be working right now! In the mean time, it might not be a bad idea to take some classes or brush up on the skills you already have.
